Xeno Causes: Greater Chicago Food Depository
For our 20th anniversary, throughout 2017, Xeno Media is implementing Xeno Causes. Each staff member chooses a charity near and dear to them and Xeno Media:
- Makes a cash donation to the charity
- Publicizes the charity through our blog and social media
In their words:
The Greater Chicago Food Depository is Chicago’s food bank. We provide food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community.
We do this in partnership with 700 agencies and programs including pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and responses for children, older adults and veterans. This network distributes food where it is needed most throughout Cook County.
Since 1979, the Food Depository has made a daily impact on hunger across Cook County. Last year, the Food Depository distributed 70 million pounds of food, 35% of which was fresh produce. Every day we distribute the equivalent of 160,000 meals.
Why Chrissy supports the Greater Chicago Food Depository:
"Too many people are forced to choose between food and other basic necessities. The question of, "Do I feed my children or do I risk eviction?" should never be something a family faces. Knowing where your next meal comes from is a privilege that many people take for granted. While there are federal nutrition assistance programs available for some, not all who require assistance qualify for these programs. So, without institutions like the Greater Chicago Food Depository, many more people would be forced to go hungry and many more Chicago families would suffer for lack of access to food."
Xeno Media is proud to support Chrissy's investment in the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
