For our 20th anniversary, throughout 2017, Xeno Media is implementing Xeno Causes. Each staff member chooses a charity near and dear to them and Xeno Media:
- Makes a cash donation to the charity
- Publicizes the charity through our blog and social media
Our twelfth Xeno Cause is The Geneva Library Foundation as selected by Karen Acklin.
In their words:
The Geneva Library Foundation raises funds and manages an endowment in support of the Geneva Public Library's vision to be a valued and innovative community resource that empowers residents at all ages and stages of life to seek knowledge, create ideas, and achieve dreams.
Established as a non-profit corporation in 2005, the Foundation is composed of dedicated residents who fundraise and advocate for the library because they believe a vibrant public library creates a stronger community.
Public libraries are important cultural and community centers that bring vital services to people that need it. Aside from simply checking out books, libraries are sometimes the only way someone can access the Internet. They're also hubs of continuing education and English language learning. Kids can drop in for book clubs, job seekers can prep for interviews, families can get discounted entry into Chicago museums, and much, much more. The Geneva Public Library is a vital pillar of our community and it's Foundation helps make that pillar stronger.
Why Karen supports The Geneva Library Foundation:
I support the Geneva Library Foundation because I believe in their mission, and my family has always been a frequent user of our local Geneva Public Library. We visit our library every month, and often multiple times a month. We have gone to hear speakers on different topics, we have taken part in mother/daughter book discussions, and my family always participates in the summer reading program. I believe the library is a vital part of my community and I support the work that they do. The library offers many opportunities that people in the community can take advantage of beyond just checking out books. The Geneva Public Library Foundation raises money for the library, but it also promotes the use of the library and organizes events.
Supporting the Geneva Library Foundation is a great way to support and grow what our beloved library can do for our community.
